Opening a Pousada: Check-in 1
Sheets, towels, and mattresses, oh my!
Thank you for all of the celebratory words and replies to my news about opening the pousada! As part of all this, I really want to show more of the process and behind the scenes, mostly because as I was getting started creating this business, I was so eager to hear more stories from this field and also just from small businesses overall, especially brick and mortar ones.
But, my days are full between everything with the pousada + my regular brand strategy work, so I’ve been thinking about the easiest, most feasible way to do this that will still be interesting to those of you who want to hear more! “Just ship it” mode. I landed on a solution (at least for now) — here’s my first attempt at it.
But first! If you have no idea what a “pousada” is or why I’m talking about it, read about my news here:
I’m opening up a connection-led pousada, or boutique inn, here in Paraty, Brazil, later this year/early 2025.
For the moment I’m going to try to record a dispatch every Wednesday or so with what I’ve been up to this week. These videos are recorded quickly, not edited, and are extremely casual!
In this week’s, I go into all the details (well not all the details, you don’t want those, I promise you) on:
Buying bedsheets, towels, pillows, mattresses, and so on. What am I placing most importance on, where do you buy them in bulk, etc?
Starting the interiors project with a friend who’s an architect. The property is beautiful and I won’t be doing major renovations, but do need to think about all the furniture, window treatments, and so on.
Kicking off branding and hopefully landing on a name. My area of “expertise” but also it’s so hard to do for yourself!
