Happy Friday!
Here are 5 things I loved this week:
Rivals on Hulu in US, Disney+ abroad. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a show so much (it’s been awhile!). This is so soapy and fun and I wanted 30 more episodes. Warning: Don’t watch with any kids or parents, this is racy!! On a similar level to Tell Me Lies in that sense, but also the complete opposite tone. Please go watch, it’s great!!
School of Rock. I saw this years ago, remember liking it, but Carlos said he’s watched it a lot so I figured I was due for a rewatch and wanted something light and fun. It’s GREAT! Enjoyed it even more than I remember. What a great message and Jack Black is at his all time best? I had no idea this was directed by Richard Linklater, who I love, and written by Mike White (who you know as the White Lotus creator). Mike White also plays Jack Black’s roommate. If you haven’t seen this in at least 10 years, you’ll love a rewatch!
A Heart That Works by Rob Delaney on audiobook. This is brutal — it’s about Rob’s family losing one of his sons to cancer at a very young age. But it’s amazing, and while it definitely spurred some tears, I wasn’t left feeling like the world is awful, the deepest depths of sadness, etc. I say this because I put off reading this book for a long time because I didn’t want to feel sad. The story is sad, but ultimately it’s very hopeful with the amount of love that Rob and his family have and show for each other.
Anything You Want by Derek Sivers, a short book on a totally different approach to entrepreneurship that I loved. More business books like this please!
I reread the Relationalist Manifesto, something that’s profoundly influenced my career and sense of purpose. I highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t read it.
And one hard pass:
No passes this week!
